Consumer bailout more important than economic bailout
Bankruptcies, foreclosures, repossessions, and credit card defaults are at an all-time high. Millions of Americans have sacrificed their credit in the face of hard economic times. But despite some press accounts to the contrary, good credit can be maintained and even restored, regardless of the circumstances.
"Everyone knows how to maintain good credit," says Bruce Hurley, a 20-year veteran of the credit industry, "Just pay your bills on time and don't get in over your head. The problem is that circumstances often make those goals impossible."
Those "circumstances" include loss of job, medical problems, divorce, or reduction in income. These financial predicaments are becoming more common than ever and can lead to late payments, loan defaults, and even foreclosure or bankruptcy.
Hurley, whose company, CreditRepairMagic.com, offers a solution for people with credit problems, says that regardless of the situation in which consumers might find themselves, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
"I have never seen a credit file that couldn't be improved, and I've seen everything you could imagine," says Hurley. "I once had a couple with 12 accounts in collection, a repossessed car, a foreclosure, and a bankruptcy. Within three months of applying the latest credit restoration strategies, they had new credit cards; within five months they financed a new car; and within a year, they were able to buy a new home at a competitive rate."
"Restoring credit is not just good for the consumer; it's good for the economy," says Hurley. "When a credit casualty gets back into the system, they tend to be far more responsible and reliable. They don't want to get into the same situation again."
As we contemplate a bailout of the U.S. economy by taxpayers, the needs of average citizens can be overlooked. But Hurley says that solving their personal financial crisis is a far simpler process.
"Credit restoration is like a bailout for consumers. It's a shot in the arm and a second chance for those who are victims of the troubled economy."
Hurley says that bailing out consumers could be even more important than bailing out the economy. "Without help, millions of consumers will soon be out of the credit system, unable to buy homes or cars, and left without the buying power that fuels economic recovery. In the long term, it makes more sense to help consumers than it does the Wall Street fat cats who contributed to the crisis in the first place."
The Federal Trade Commission warns consumers to be wary of credit repair clinics that charge large amounts of money and claim to fix your credit for you. The FTC, on their website, says "Everything a credit repair clinic can do for you legally, you can do for yourself."
Hurley agrees. "Credit repair clinics and other services, including law firms, either charge a huge upfront fee, which is actually illegal to do, or they charge monthly for their services. Think about that for a minute. The longer they take, the more money they make. At $79 a month, it can easily add up to thousands of dollars over the one to three years it takes them to complete the process."
Hurley's company, CreditRepairMagic.com, provides inexpensive software that makes it simple for consumers to restore their own credit. Restoring credit is legal and ethical as long as consumers follow the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
"The most effective strategy is a 'self-directed' approach rather than "do-it-yourself,'" says Hurley. "The average person has no idea how to take advantage of all the benefits of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Our credit repair software takes them step by step through credit restoration and makes the process organized, simple and fast--often less than 60 days.
This "self directed" method, which costs less than a hundred dollars, actually requires less work than using a law firm because there's no middleman. So for those who are more interested in a personal financial bailout than a national one, it's comforting to know that there are options.
